Rangitāne o Wairau release Blenheim Sewage Treatment Plant Cultural Impact Assessment

Rangitāne o Wairau has released its Cultural Impact Assessment (CIA) in relation to the Blenheim Sewage Treatment Plant (BSTP).  The CIA has been crafted with the input and insights provided by our whānau over many years, whilst also drawing on the initial work that Rangitāne has undertaken in preparing a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for Te Pokohiwi o Kupe.

Rangitāne is clear in our position: we oppose any proposal for the BSTP to remain in its current site and to discharge to our wai and moana, in any form.

We seek to work constructively in partnership with Council and the local community to ensure a positive outcome – one that ultimately sees the BSTP and its discharge point relocated to an alternate site that enables culturally appropriate treatment and discharge to land, and the current BSTP site and receiving environment be remediated to improve its mauri.

The full CIA can be found here.
