Rangitāne o Wairau Submission on IRD’s Proposed Tax Changes
Rangitāne o Wairau has made a submission on proposed changes to tax rules for not-for-profit organisations, which could have significant long-term impacts on our iwi financial position. The proposals would remove tax exemptions for certain charitable business entities, in our case, our commercial asset holding company, Rangitāne Investments Limited.
Independent tax advice indicates that if these changes proceed, Rangitāne could face an additional tax burden of around $9 million over the next 20 years. This would directly affect our ability to fund education, housing, cultural revitalisation, and other initiatives that benefit whānau.
Our submission highlights these concerns and urges the Government to not proceed with these changes. You can read the full submission here.
