Kia ora koutou,

Good news! The Trustees met last Friday and have given the go-ahead to proceed with the repairs to the wharenui at Tuamātene. We are looking forward to seeing whānau use this building again. We hope to start repairs in February with completion in April this year.  We are also replacing the roofs of both the wharenui and wharekai as these have started to leak.

The dawn ceremony for the blessing of the Horton Street site is on this Friday at 6:30am, we would be delighted if you can attend.  We are meeting at the southern end of the Railway Station carpark. There will be refreshments following the ceremony. Construction of the new building will start in early February.

This Saturday, at 10am, Tina Porou is holding a wānanga at Ūkaipō to discuss the management plan for Te Pokohiwi, to understand your views of this very important place.  We encourage whānau to attend and give feedback. Lunch and refreshments are provided, so please let the office know if you are going for catering purposes.

Whānau day at Pukatea on Waitangi day next week is looking like a great day.  There is a shuttle for kaumātua so please let the office know if you would like transport.  If its as hot as it is today (a sweltering +34c) we will organise several rides home early if the heat gets too much.

We are looking forward to another successful Māori Night Market next Tuesday at Seymour Square (4-8pm). Take your whānau and a blanket and sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

Stay cool everyone, I am starting to look forward to winter.

Mā te wā

Nick
