Kia ora koutou,

This week we farewell Amber, our Business Support Co-ordinator, before she heads off on her overseas trip of a lifetime.  Amber has been a great support to me personally and she has been a key member of the team.  Her cheerful and calm approach has balanced a very busy office and I have appreciated her help with my reo and tikanga.  We wish Amber the very best and we are looking forward to the holiday snaps.  Madeline will be filling in while we recruit a new administrator.

There is quite a bit of work going on behind the scenes organising events for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori in September.  We are excited to announce that Stacey and Scotty Morrison will be here to help roll out our language and cultural revitalisation strategy, “Tangata Rau, Reo Kotahi”.  We will also be holding a beginner’s Te Reo class/Fish & Chip night with Anton Matthews who has had a great response to his Fish & Chip Truck nights in Ōtautahi (Christchurch). We will be finishing off the week with Te Pātaka o Wairau – Māori Night Market on Friday 14 September.  More details for these events later this week.

As a reminder, the second Kanohi ki te Kanohi hui will be held at 6pm Friday 31 August. Jeremy MacLeod and Janis de Thierry will be here to discuss and consult on waiata resources and to introduce “Tangata Rau, Reo Kotahi”.  The strategy is well considered, there has been a lot of consultation and most importantly the strategy is realistic, pragmatic and achievable.  Implementation will be a focus for the coming year.

We are all set for our Kaumātua trip to Wellington next week.

This week we will be preparing for the next Trustee hui in September.  Risman is busy with the spring flush which seems to be earlier this year.  Tuamātene Maara Kai is looking great, we have our first individual garden planted by Rangitāne tamariki, Nate Wilson (8) and Alex Hill (6) and Victor Hill (4).  If you would like to put your name down for one of these gardens please phone the office for details.

Kia pai to wiki

Nick
